Section 1: Short title and extent

(1) This Act may be called the Census Act, 1948. (2) It extends to the whole of India.

Amendment notes (numbers in square brackets in the text above):

  1. 2. The words “the Provinces and Acceding States” omitted by the A.O. 1950.
  2. 3. Subs., ibid, for the sub-section (2).
  3. 4. The words “except the State of Jammu and Kashmir” omitted by Act 22 of 1959, s. 2 (w.e.f 19-5-1959).
