More about Article 393

Article 393 of the Indian Constitution, found in Part XXII, deals with the short title, commencement, and repeals. It establishes that the Constitution of India shall be known as the Constitution of India. This article was originally drafted as Article 313A in the 1948 draft of the Indian Constitution. However, the Constituent Assembly did not have the opportunity to consider it at that time. The amendment to include Article 393 occurred on October 17, 1949. The draft article specified that the Constitution would be referred to as the “Constitution of India” and would be accepted by the Assembly on November 26, 1949. Interestingly, the Constituent Assembly accepted the draft article without any debate on October 17, 1949.
